Shabbat and Holiday services at Bet Shalom are spiritually uplifting and easy to participate in.
Whether you are already proficient with our prayer services or just beginning, Rabbi Locketz, Rabbi Crimmings and Cantor Schwartz offer engaging prayer opportunities highlighted with meaningful insight and music for our congregation.
Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday Evening
We begin Shabbat with Kabbalat Panim (a social gathering) at 5:30 pm in our Social Hall. This is an opportunity for the community and guests to congregate and enjoy a light nosh before services.
Led by our rabbis and cantor, all Friday evening Erev Shabbat Services begin at 6:00 pm. Every Friday evening of the month is slightly different:
First Friday is a traditional service;
on the second Friday, we are often joined by the Bet Shalom Adult Choir;
the third Friday is filled with contemporary Jewish music guided by our Ruach Ensemble, and the final Friday of the month also includes our Tot Shabbat families.
Whichever Friday evening you attend, there is something here for everyone, every Shabbat.
Free child care is available during every Friday evening service.
Congregational Shabbat Morning Service
Services occur every Shabbat morning at 10am with a Kiddush to follow in our Social Hall.
On many Shabbat mornings, a young person becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah joins the Rabbis and Cantor on the bimah as they celebrate crossing the threshold into Jewish adulthood. Our Shabbat morning service includes the reading of Torah, opportunities for inspiration and learning, and our very own Bet Shalom Shabbat Morning Prayer book. The entire community is encouraged to come celebrate the accomplishments of our B’nai Mitzvah.
On Shabbat mornings when our service does not include a Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration, we invite you to gather with us as a congregation for an informal service and Kiddush Brunch. We hope that in the coming year, you will join us and enjoy the community we create on Shabbat
Mornings.
